Few
months back I was in Yogyakarta for an exhibition and was amazed by how artists
there worked together to help each other grow. The more prominent artist opened
their galleries and regularly had group exhibitions that included artists not
only from Indonesia but elsewhere as well.
They
used their popularity to get these artists opportunities, exhibitions and media
coverage. Not only that, they invited their collectors and anyone they thought
would be interested to see and purchase art to join them at these exhibitions. I
really loved the collaborative culture I saw there.
Which
was why after I came back I decided to try and bring that culture here and
started this open call exhibition. I would like to thank One Utama’s team and
management for starting this gallery and making it accessible to all. It is
important that such art spaces are available for artists to use to share their
art.
