APW Bangsar played host to my solo exhibition on 25 & 26 May 2019 under their SLAM programme.
S.L.A.M (Support Local Artists Malaysia) is a new division of events here at APW Bangsar - providing local Malaysian artists a platform to showcase their work to the public. By creating this platform, we hope to encourage the art scene, allowing it to grow and flourish. Once a month for the year of 2019, they will be hosting an exhibition of a different Malaysian artist. About the Exhibition
Sweet Dreams are made of this was a song by British
duo band Eurythmics and one of the biggest hits of the 80s. The song talks
about how humans are perpetually seeking to make sense of their lives and how
their aspirations either takes advantage of someone or leads them to be taken
advantage of.
“Travelling
the world and seven seas, everybody is looking for something.”
Similarly,
this exhibition looks into different aspects of human behaviour, death, life,
conscious and the subconscious mind. I explore eastern symbolism and psychology
and find parallels in Carl Jung’s analysis of psychology.
Jung
in his books talks about how man can achieve wholeness only through knowledge
and the acceptance of the unconscious by understanding the symbols of dreams.
In
Eastern religions and cultures, symbols were part of human vocabulary to
express and see things in a new dimension through our connection with nature.
Symbols and visuals were a way to explain complex ideas and expand the mind.
